Let’s Talk “THE SKY IS THE LIMIT“

         Restaurant: This local owned restaurant finds it’s home in Grand Case on the Friendly Island of St. Maarten/St. Martin. Yes! One island, Two names. Grand Case is mostly ocean front property on the French Side of the island.

         Service: If you’re looking for fast food, this is not the place to go. But then again the Caribbean on a whole may not be the place for you, lol. I mean it is all about relaxation, unwinding, and taking in the scene. Our orders “took a minute” to come to the table, but with the music playing and great conversation with family time flew by. The server was so nice and kind, she kept checking in on us to see if there was anything else we needed while the food was being prepared.  We definitely had the Island Fruit Punch on deck. While there, we also had the opportunity to meet and chat with the co-owner and chef of over 20 years, Jacqueline Lake-Carty a.k.a Jacko! 

         Food: I was craving some good local food and this restaurant’s menu was filled with recipes that brought back so many memories of my childhood. When our appetizers, the famous Stuffed Crab Back came out, I instantly forgot all about the wait. Fresh Crab mixed with island spices, vegetables, and French Bread, baked right in the shell. Oh, my word, it was just like I remembered growing up on this beautiful island. For the main course we ordered Johnny cakes (fried, but light and fluffy breads), BBQ ribs with Bami Goreng, sweet plantain, rice and beans, and potato salad. Every bite was mouth-watering! As I like to say “Delish!” 

         Ambience: The people of St. Maarten/St.Martin call this open-air restaurant a “LoLo”, short for “Local People, Local Food”. This place definitely has the island vibes. It’s not your typical restaurant and may not be what you expect, but if you want to experience our food down to its core, visiting a LoLo is the way to go.  Yes, it can get hot and humid on the islands, but having a meal in the early evening time when the heat of the sun has dissipated is an experience to be had. We had a great time with the family, jamming to the island music of Zouk, feeling the cool sea breeze off the Grand Case Bay, and watching the boats cruise by. Overall, the experience was exciting, fun, and familiar. So check out The Sky is the Limit if you want the experience of some good finger-licking local food.

                  A Dash of Encouragement: Hanging with the family that evening, my husband and I had no idea where we were going to have dinner with my dad until we got to the spot. I was in for a treat with some good island food. When I saw the title of the restaurant “The Sky is the Limit”!, it made me remember there are no limits to God’s faithfulness and love. It was evening and starting to get dark, so when I looked up to the sky, I saw all these beautiful stars and the scripture that came to mind was Psalms 89:6 (ESV) “For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord? There is none like the Lord; there is no limit on what He can do and who He is”. So why do we put up these self-imposed boundaries? Why do we let others tell us what we can and cannot do? Trust and believe! The sky is the limit!
